Unemployment Up Across Central Illinois

The unemployment rate significantly jumped across central Illinois in November.

Unemployment in DeWitt County jumped from 5.1-percent in October to 6.1% in November. It was the areas biggest gain.

Champaign County had a 5.7% November unemployment rate, up from 5.1% in October.

Unemployment in Logan County was 6-percent, up from October's 5.2%. Unemployment was also 6-percent in Livingston County.

Piatt County unemployment in November came in at 5.5%.

In McLean County, November unemployment was 5.3%.

Macon County has a 7.6% unemployment rate, the areas highest.

Moultrie County has a 5.1% unemployment rate and unemployment in Sangamon County is 5.8-percent.

Unemployment at a state level is 5.8% compared to the 4.8 national average.

State Department of Employment Security, Ron Payne, says the increase in unemployment rates across the state are actually due to more people seeking work. He says there is concern about the lack of job growth over the past year.
