Bears Offensive Coordinator Interviews For Eagles Job; NFL Notes

width=Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase interviewed with the Philadelphia Eagles for their vacant coaching position on Tuesday.

Gase is the third candidate to meet with the Eagles since Chip Kelly was fired last week. Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur already interviewed.

Gase helped Jay Cutler post a career-high passer rating (92.3) this season after spending the past two seasons as offensive coordinator in Denver. Gase worked with Peyton Manning as Denver's quarterbacks coach for two seasons before running the offense.

The Eagles finished 7-9 after entering the year with Super Bowl expectations. Owner Jeffrey Lurie is expected to meet with several candidates before making a decision.

>>Mets Front Office Man Bolts For Browns

The Cleveland Browns have tried just about everything to win and it hasn't worked out so now they're just going full Moneyball.

The woebegone franchise announced Tuesday that it has hired Paul DePodesta of the New York Mets away from baseball to be the team's new chief strategy office. Joel Sherman of the New York Post first reported the news, writing that DePodesta's job is "answerable only to" owner Jimmy Haslam and president Sashi Brown

Worth noting: Brown is a big analytics guy and DePodesta is kind of the analytics guy. Remember Jonah Hill in Moneyball? That's DePodesta.

Also worth noting: DePodesta did get his start in football.

>>Report Says RGIII Wants To Play For Cowboys If Cut

The Cowboys' backup quarterback situation was basically a nightmare in 2015. After Tony Romo went down with a broken collarbone, Brandon Weeden, Kellen Moore and Matt Cassel combined to go 1-11.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has spent years looking for a capable backup -- and a potential replacement for Romo -- but he's found nothing. That could change this offseason, because two former first-round picks really want to play for the Cowboys in 2016.

Not only is Johnny Manziel hoping to end up in Dallas for the 2016 season, but so is Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III. According to Yahoo Sports, Dallas is atop Griffin's "preferred destinations should he become available," and Griffin is almost definitely going to become available.

If the Redskins were to cut Griffin this offseason, it would cost them exactly zero dollars in salary cap space.

The only thing that could possibly throw a wrench into things is if RG3 were to somehow get injured during the playoffs. When the Redskins exercised his fifth-year option, that guaranteed his 2016 salary of $16.155 million for injury only, so basically, the Redskins would only owe RG3 that money if he were to be injured in a football-related activity.

Assuming that doesn't happen, there's a good chance RG3 will be available soon.

Although Jones has spent a lot of time over the past three years talking about Manziel, he's also likes Griffin, who was the second-overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

"I'm a fan of RG3," Jones told NFL Network in November 2014.

The Redskins closed the 2015 season in Dallas on Sunday and Griffin made sure to say "Hi" to Cowboys coach Jason Garrett after Washington's 34-23 win.
