Fair Share Plantiff Thinks Union's Argument Isn't Valid

One of the plaintiffs in the Illinois fair share case says a similar case originating in California heard at the U.S. Supreme Court Monday is historic.

Mark Janus is a child support specialist with the state of Illinois and is suing over being forced to pay fair share dues to a union as a condition of his employment. Janus says the public union’s arguments heard Monday at the Supreme Court in the case Friedrichs vs. California Teachers Association, a case similar to his, were unfounded. Janus says the unions said if fair share was taken away, they’d disappear.

Janus joins two other Illinois state employees in fighting fair share dues, but the U.S. Supreme Court took the Friedrichs case first. A ruling isn’t expected until sometime this summer, but the decision is expected to impact all states that require fair share dues as a condition of employment.
