Kansas Unanimous No. 1 in Coaches Poll; Still No. 1in AP Poll

There is a new No. 1 in the coaches poll this week following last Monday's Big 12 thriller.

Kansas defeated Oklahoma in a battle of No. 1 ranked teams in the country in triple-overtime, and thus is now the No. 1 team according to the coaches. The Jayhawks accrued every single first place vote. The Sooners only fell one spot to No. 2, as the coaches clearly realized that the two teams seem to be relatively evenly matched after the high-level performance last week.

width=Below them, Maryland stayed at No. 3 but the shake-up starts at No. 4. Last week's No. 4, Virginia, lost both of its road games last week and fell all the way to No. 11. Michigan State moved up one place to No. 4, with North Carolina moving up to round out the top-five. Duke replaced Arizona at No. 6 after the Wildcats also dropped a pair of road games this week and tumbled 10 spots down to No. 16, the biggest drop in this week's poll.

There was only one new entrant to the poll this week, the Indiana Hoosiers. Despite losing James Blackmon Jr. for the season, Tom Crean has the Hoosiers out to a 4-0 start in the Big Ten. Overall, Indiana is 14-3 and has won nine straight games. They replaced Connecticut, who fell to Temple on Tuesday.

The Jayhawks and Sooners' triple-overtime classic on Jan. 4 saw Oklahoma lose on the road, but with the Sooners' double-digit home win over K-State on Saturday, the Big 12 keeps the top two teams in the country.

Maryland and Michigan State stay steady in their three and four spots, respectively, while preseason No. 1 UNC is back into the top five after its road win against Syracuse on Saturday night. There are two undefeated teams left in college hoops, but they're separated by nine spots in the latest poll. SMU is in the top 10, while Frank Martin's Gamecocks are slowly but surely moving up with each week.

Villanova, with its 4-0 start in the Big East, jumps from No. 11 to No. 6 this week. Big drops: Virginia (fourth to 13th) and Arizona (seventh to 18th) after both those teams lost two in a row.
