Bulls Take Advantage of Pistons Miscues For Win; Longtime Assistant Dies

Pau Gasol had 31 points and 12 rebounds, and the Chicago Bulls won again without Joakim Noah, 111-101 over the Detroit Pistons on Monday.

Noah dislocated his left shoulder Friday and likely will miss the rest of the season, but the Bulls have had success without him. They improved to 9-2 in 2015-16 when he doesn't play.

 width=Ersan Ilyasova had 19 points and 11 rebounds for Detroit, which was outplayed after taking a 13-point lead in the first quarter. The Pistons also lost their cool, getting called for three technical fouls in the third. Detroit guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope received two of them and was ejected.

Derrick Rose had 20 points and Jimmy Butler added 16 for Chicago.

Johnny Bach, whose defensive expertise as an assistant coach helped the Chicago Bulls win three NBA titles from 1991 to 1993, has died. He was 91.

The Bulls confirmed the death Monday.

Bach was the head coach of the Golden State Warriors from 1983-86 before joining the Bulls as an assistant. He also worked as an assistant for Charlotte, Detroit and Washington. He returned to the Bulls in 2003 and retired in 2006 after more than a half-century in coaching.

Bach was the coach at Fordham from 1950-68 and at Penn State from 1968-77.

John Paxson, Chicago's executive vice president of basketball operations, says Bach was "a true treasure in the world of basketball."
