Decatur Group Seeking Macon, DeWitt County Residents To Help Find Employment

If you are a Macon or DeWitt County resident and you've been seeking employment opportunities in the manufacturing industry, a group in Decatur has additional resources to help you find work.

Larry Peterson with Workforce Investment Solutions in Decatur says their group works to find employers needs and then find people and train unemployed or underemployed people in the DeWitt and Macon Counties.

Workforce Investment Solutions has held many trainings in recent years and placed a great deal of workers into jobs. He says new to their training this time around is a focus on logistics.

There are several areas of focus in the training. Peterson says the training can actually be taken for college credit because they work with Richland Community College.

The program over the last two years has been very successful. Peterson says they place roughly 80-percent in the workforce and he says of the remaining 20-percent, some of those went on to further training.

Workforce Investment Solutions has a great relationship with area employers according to Peterson. He explains not only do they find the employees that go through their program very valuable, but often times, Workforce Investment Solutions is able to find work for their clients that are not listen.

To apply the for the program, you need to have a certain reading and math level. If you do not meet the requirement, Peterson says that should not keep you from trying for this free program.

There are four opportunities to attend a mandatory meeting this week to be a part of it. Those are Tuesday and Wednesday at 9 am or 1 pm both days at the Workforce Investment Solutions building at their location off Monroe and Pershing Roads behind the Perkins restaurant in the strip mall.
