The department will be in charge of consolidating the various state agency mainframes, outdated systems DO-IT director Hardik Bhatt says raises cyber security questions. Bhatt says the goal is to make citizen interaction with government similar to modern banking.
Bhatt also says another goal is to have case workers have remote access to vital case information on smartphones and tablets.
Rauner and Bhatt said the state spends roughly $800,000 for information technology per year.
