A showdown between two area heavyweights lived up to the billing Tuesday night in non-conference boys basketball action as the Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals edged Monticello 56-54.
The undefeated Cardinals (19-0, 4-0) overcame a late third quarter deficit of six and scored the first six points of the final period to pull ahead for good.
Tyler Bond led all scorers for the Cardinals with 25 points. Garrett Shea added 10 points and eight baords. The Cardinals overcame ten Monticello three pointers by going 15-for-21 at the foul line.
The Sages were led Zach Fisher's 20 points. Sutten Witterbottom added 14 points with four rebounds and four assists in 26 minutes.
The Sages drop to 12-4 overall and are 2-1 in Okaw Valley play.
