EIU Still in Trouble

Eastern Illinois University says recent stopgap funding from lawmakers won't be sufficient to get the Charleston school through the summer semester.

EIU received $12.5 million from the state but President David Glassman says the school will still struggle to make payroll as soon as late July.

Layoffs may be needed in the weeks to come. EIU's bloodletting has included the loss of 413 employees in the past year.

A hiring freeze is in place, construction projects are on hold and travel and purchases are subject to deep restrictions.
