Illinois State Fair vendors struggle

Weather has been a tough obstacle for vendors at this year's Illinois State Fair. Record rain hit on the fair's first full day and more rain fell on Monday. A power outage this week and this year's decision to end the free Preview Day also cut into business. Dry days have been of the hot and sticky variety. Peoria area restaurateur Phil Kaplas has been a fair vendor for 13 years and operates four stands currently. He says there has been a noticeable silence at times at his registers...
 
 
Some vendors have cut their part time help. The Illinois State Fair continues through Sunday.
