You won’t have the opportunity to be automatically registered to vote in Illinois. The House fell a few votes short of overriding the Governor’s veto of automatic voter registration.
The bill would have signed residents up after coming in to contact with a number of state agencies, but critics were worried about possible voter fraud in the face of increasing voter participation.
Republican State Rep. Tome Demmer from Dixon said too much was unknown about how the state could keep up with new names voter rolls.
The veto had already been overridden in the Senate but is now a dead issue after failing to do the same in the House.
