The state of Illinois is shrinking. Not the size of the state but the number people living in it.
According to new data from the US Census Illinois lost more residents than any other state in America. There are 33,000 fewer people in Illinois in 2017 as compared to 2016.
The fall pushed Pennsylvania ahead of Illinois to become the 5th most populous state.
The fastest growing state is Idaho and five of the six states gaining the most residents are out west.
