Fall Gardening, and Cleaning Tips

With the month of October starting up, we start to move into colder weather. It's still not too late to prep your gardens for the winter months and with the help of local University of Illinois Extension office has some tips for gardeners.

Candace Hart, U of I Horticulturist, says we can still harvest before the frosting starts.

Cleaning up now is what direction most would be going through fall. Hart indicated that if you noticed diseased plants or pests cleaning up your garden removing them helping next years garden.

The best to help fight against those diseases is just being in control, scouting out your gardens making sure it doesn't spread. Routine checks are beneficial for your gardens if you want them to live longer.

Hart says if gardeners have any questions, contacting your local Extension office, as each one has a gardener on staff.
