This weekend marked national prescription drug take back day and it’s a reminder that there is a safe way to get rid of unused medications. That means dropping them off at a designated spot rather than flushing them down the toilet. Melissa Silva with the Illinois EPA says that it’s easy to find a place to take all those unwanted bottles out of the medicine cabinet. 

Silva says flushing or just tossing out unused medication can contaminate drinking water.
