The proposed 1,350-mile Heartland Greenway Pipeline System has been called off, according to the company overseeing the project.

Nebraska-based Navigator CO2 Ventures announcing it has “decided to cancel” the project, a pipeline capable of transporting for permanent storage in Illinois the carbon dioxide captured from ethanol and fertilizer production in South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota and Iowa. In announcing the cancellation of the project on its website, Navigator said development of the multi-state project “has been challenging” and cited “the unpredictable nature of the regulatory and government processes involved, particularly in South Dakota and Iowa” as reasons behind the decision.
