Despite Early Lead Maroons Drop Opener


The Clinton Maroons jumped out to an early lead in their season opener, but were unable to hold on and lost 3-1 to the Midwest Central Raiders on Thursday night in Manito.
 
Nolan Hickman had baffled the Raiders through five before finally surrendering the lead on a Raiders' two-run double by Weimer and a RBI groundout by Ary. Hickman struck out seven batters and allowed three earned runs on four hits and no walks over six innings.
 
Williams recorded the win for Midwest Central. He allowed one run over six innings. Williams struck out eight, walked two and gave up four hits. Hickman was the game's losing pitcher.
 
The Maroons scored their only run of the game on an RBI single by Trenten Fryman in the first inning.
 
The Maroons' Junior Varsity team played their season opener Thursday night following the varsity contest, and fell by a final score of 12-4.
 
The Clinton Maroons will host Heyworth in their home opener from Evans Field Saturday morning. First pitch at 11am.
