Arrietea Throws No-Hitter, Cubs Dominate Reds; Sox Fall To Angels

Cubs ace Jake Arrieta blanked the Reds at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati on Thursday for the second no-hitter of his career as the Cubs routed the Reds 16-0.

Arrieta threw 119 pitches in the masterpiece. He struck out six and walked four.

He tossed a no-no at Dodger Stadium on Aug. 30 of last season.

Kris Bryant homered twice, including a grand slam, and drove in six runs. Arrieta contributed a pair of singles and a walk as the Cubs pulled away.

Anthony Rizzo and David Ross added home runs as well and Addison Russell was the only Cubs starter not to reach base as the Cubs pounded out 18 hits and drew six walks.

>>Trout Leads Angels Past Sox

Mike Trout hit a two-run homer and reached base four times, helping back Jered Weaver as the Los Angeles Angels beat the Chicago White Sox 3-2 Thursday to close a 10-game trip.

Melky Cabrera's solo homer in the seventh was the lone run off Weaver (1-1), who allowed three hits in seven innings despite velocity that topped out at 85 mph.

Trout connected on a fastball from John Danks (0-3), driving the ball 419 feet to left-center with two outs in the fifth - he has been 0 for 8 with four strikeouts against Danks. Trout also singled and walked twice.
