Jayne, Trotter Lead Blue Ridge Over El Paso-Gridley

The Blue Ridge Knights opened their final week fo the season with a thrilling win Monday afternoon at El Paso-Gridley High School.

 

Cory Jayne threw six shutout innings and a fifth inning RBI single by Caleb Trotter lifted the Blue Ridge Knights past El Paso-Gridley 1-0 in boys Heart of Illinois baseball action Monday.

Trotter singled home Thomas Hardesty in the fifth inning and provided Jayne with all the run support he needed.

 

Ben Williamson closed it out in the seventh for the save.

 

Jayne went shutout innings, allowing three hits, three walks and struck out two. Williamson had two strikeouts in a perfect frame.

 

Trotter finished with a pair of hits and the game's lone RBI.

 

Damien Cords and Hardesty each had a hit.

 

The Knights are 19-8 overall and 11-1 in Heart of Illinois action.

 

Blue Ridge will host Paxton-Buckley-Loda Wednesday and finish up the regular season Friday at Fieldcrest.

 

The Knights will play the Heart of Illinois Conference tournament next week at Illinois Wesleyan.
