Jason Day Sets Record Pace At Day 1 of Players Championship

Jason Day put another exclamation point on the board on Thursday at The Players Championship with a 63 in the first round. He slid into a five-way tie for the course record.

Day made nine birdies (no bogeys), hit 15 greens and averaged 319 yards off the tee. He said he was thinking about the course record.

Justin Rose is in a tie for second at seven under par. He was sniffing around that 61-62 mark after he made eagle-birdie-birdie to turn in 31. A bogey on his second nine derailed it.

Zach Jonshon is tied for 13th at 5-under par.

Phil Mickelson shot a 70 and sits at 2-under par, tied for 41st.

Jordan Speith, Rickie Fowler and Rory McIlroy all shot even par Thursay, and are a shot back of the projected cut of 1-under.
