As heard on WHOW and at dewittdailynews.com, early offense paced the Champaign Central Maroons past the Clinton Maroons 10-0 in 5 innings Wednesday afternoon from McKinley Field in Champaign in Class 3A boys baseball regional action.
Champaign Central capped a four run fourth inning with a three-run home run by Marshall Thompson and the Maroons added four more in the second.
Illinois State commit Joe Aielts hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.
Northern Illinois commit Alec Barger went 1-for-2 with a triple, two runs scored and a stolen base. Matt Brown, Tanner Gordon and Joe Bagger each had triples for Champaign Central, who will play for a Regional title Saturday morning.
The Stephen York Country Financial Player of the game, Jacob Overton led the game off with a double. He finished 1-for-3.
Mac Hickman, Tanner White and Cody Wheery each had base hits and Dylan Walsh was hit by a pitch.
Philip Swartz threw five complete innings as Clinton left four runners on base, three in scoring position.
Clinton finishes their 2016 season 7-20.
