The NCAA on Thursday approved a medical hardship waiver for Fighting Illini point guard Tracy Abrams (Chicago/Mount Carmel H.S.), granting him a sixth year of eligibility for the 2016-17 season.
Abrams missed all of last season after suffering a torn left Achilles tendon in July. That was the second straight missed year of competition for Abrams, who suffered a torn ACL in his right knee in September 2014.
Abrams last competed during the 2013-14 season. He ranked second on the team in scoring that year as a junior, averaging 10.7 points while also leading the team in assists (3.2 apg).
