Local Football Programs Ready For 2016 Campaigns

The grind of the summer camp season and preseason practices are about to culminate in the opening kicks of football seasons across the state of Illinois this Friday night.

The Class 2A defending state champion Tri-Valley Vikings are ready to defend their title and head coach Josh Roop says his team has a good mix of experience returning but they'll also have to integrate some new faces to their schemes.

The LeRoy Panthers football team made a somewhat surprising run into the semi-finals of the Class 1A playoffs before falling to the eventual state champs, Arcola. Head coach BJ Zeleznik says he's got a big senior class this year and he also will have to introduce some younger, new faces to their schemes.

For the Cerro Gordo Bement Broncos, if they can stay healthy, Head Coach Andy Kerley thinks they could be one the best the Little Okaw Valley has to offer. Cerro Gordo is coming off another playoff appearance under Kerley's tenure.

The Heart of Illinois welcomes Eureka to the conference this year and will also split into two divisions. Tri-Valley heads to the 'Large School' division and the LeRoy joins the small school division.

Cerro Gordo Bement opens their season at Warrensburg-Latham of the Central Illinois Conference.

LeRoy starts their season at home against Ridgeview.

For Tri-Valley, they'll play at Bloomington Central Catholic to open the season.
