Sages Outlast Delays, Roll Olney

Friday night's game in Monticello kicked off 15 minutes late due to a non-weather related delay and then was delayed 30 minutes due to lightning in the area with 3:54 to play in the first quarter.

As heard on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, the delays didn't phase senior quarterback Caleb Hanson, who scored three more touchdowns and Monticello dominated Olney 43-0 in Monticello Friday night.

A wet and humid night wasn't going to slow Hanson, who was once again efficient through the air finishing 11 of 16 for 265 yards with two touchdowns and rushed for 102 yards and another score on 11 carries.

Johnny Dawson led the Sages receivers with 109 yards and a touchdown on three receptions. He had receptions of 50 and 47 yards.

Isiah Florey finished 99 yards on four receptions with a touchdown.

Lucas Lieb and Alek Bundy scored on the ground as well. Lieb tallied 46 yards on six carries and Bundy’s score was his only touch of the night.

The Sages endured not only a late kick off but overcame a half hour lightning delay as severe storms hammered the areas southeast of Piatt County.

Despite the delays, Monticello improved to 3-0 on the season.

The Sages will play under the lights next Saturday night at 7:30 pm in Monticello hosting Tolono Unity. Hear all the action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
