Illinois sophomore guard Jalen Coleman-Lands has broken a bone in his right hand and is expected to be sidelined for about eight weeks.
The University of Illinois Athletics Department says Coleman-Lands broke the bone during a workout Wednesday and had surgery Friday.
Coleman-Lands set the Fighting Illini record for 3-pointers by a freshman last year with 87. He averaged 10.3 points overall and scored in double digits in 19 games, hitting a career-high 26 points against Rutgers.
Illinois' first exhibition game is Oct. 30 against Washington University. The regular season opens Nov. 11 as the Illini face Southeast Missouri State.
