Toews Leads Canada Past Europe

In a game that had semifinal seeding implications, Canada did what just about everyone expected them to do by rolling over Europe 4-1. The win gave Canada first place in Group A and a date with either North America or Russia in the first semifinal.

Sidney Crosby got the scoring started just 4:01 into the game on a quick wraparound, while Jonathan Toews added a pair of goals. Marian Hossa scored for Europe, but they couldn't get much going otherwise.

On the shot chart, Canada held a 46-20 edge. Canada also controlled 64 percent of the shot attempts at even strength over the first two periods before easing off the gas pedal in the third period.

They also managed to get Corey Crawford, Claude Giroux and Jake Muzzin into the game, while resting Carey Price, Ryan Getzlaf and Shea Weber. No matter what lineup they put out, they're always going to have the superior team. Wednesday night was a good reminder of that.v
