Sages Hold On For Win Over St. Joe-Ogden

In a game heard on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com Friday night, Calvin Fisher scored a career high 27 points and the Monticello Sages wrapped up the regular season with a big win over St. Joseph-Ogden, 50-46 from Monticello High School.

 

The Sages faced their largest deficit, 35-27 with 3:21 to play in the third quarter and outscored the Spartans 23-11 the rest of the way using lockdown defense.

 

Fisher scored 16 points in the second half, including 11 in the third quarter with a three just before time expired to give Monticello a 39-38 lead.

 

Isiah Florey and Luke Stokowski each added eight points. Florey grabbed five rebounds while Stokowski grabbed four boards.

 

The Sages were outrebounded 25-20.

 

Monticello shot 12-for-15 from the floor in the second half and shot all ten of their free throw attempts in the second half, sinking six.

 

The Sages held Spartans star Brandon Trimble to 14 points and Kolten Taylor added 12.

 

St. Joe-Ogden ends their regular season, 18-9 and 3-5 in the Okaw Valley Conference.

 

Monticello ends the regular season 18-5 and 5-3 in the Okaw.

 

The Sages will play at Regionals Wednesday against the winner of Monday’s game between Broadlands-Heritage and Unity. Wednesday’s game time is set for 6 pm. Hear the action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
