In a game heard on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, the Monticello Sages withstood a late rally by the Bismarck-Henning Blue Devils and pulled away late to win 57-38 Tuesday night at the Monticello Section in boys 2A postseason action.
The Sages led 40-18 with 4:25 left in the third quarter, but a 16-4 run over the next 6:53 brought the Blue Devils within 44-34 at the 5:42 mark of the fourth quarter, and it was all Monticello the rest of the way, as they outscored Bismarck-Henning 13-4 the rest of the way and advanced to a Sectional Final Friday night at Monticello Middle School.
The Sages were led by Calvin Fisher’s 21 points and eight rebounds. Isiah Florey added 16 points, five assists and three rebounds. Luke Stokowski contributed ten points, pulling down eight rebounds and dished out five assists.
Johnny Dawson only scored four points but had a season high nine rebounds and dished out seven assists as the Sages scored 26 field goals and dished out 20 assists as a team.
They also shot 66-percent from the field and went 4-for-6 beyond the arc.
Monticello outscored Bismarck-Henning 40-16 in the paint and dominated the glass, 34-14.
The Blue Devils turned 19 Sages turnovers into 16 points.
The Sages are now 21-5 overall and the Blue Devils end their season 22-10.
Paxton-Buckley-Loda and Warrensburg-Latham meet up at 7 pm Wednesday night at Monticello Middle School with the winner to take on Monticello Friday night at 7 pm for the Sectional title.
