Monticello Use Big Sixth Inning To Ten-Run Oakwood

Jeffery Wileaver’s 2-run single capped a five run sixth inning and propelled Monticello to an 11-1 ten-run rule win over Oakwood Thursday afternoon in non-conference boys baseball action from Monticello High School.

 

Wileaver’s hit capped a 3-for-4 afternoon.

 

Leading 6-1 in the top of the sixth, the Alex Marquardt doubled to following Nate Graham’s pop out to center field. Then Konner Bundy walked. Nick Stokowski singled over the head of Oakwood left fielder Noah Ruch. An errant throw to second allowed Stokowski to take third, then an errant throw to third allowed Stokowski to score, making it 9-1.

Logan Hislope followed with a single, Mitch Carr was hit by a pitch. Jacob Pakorny walked to load the bases and set up Wileaver’s two-run walk off single to extend the lead to a game ending 11-1 lead.

 

Marquardt finished the afternoon 4-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and three runs scored.

 

Cam Wittig was the pitcher of record, throwing four innings, allowing a run on three hits with seven strikeouts and no walks.

 

Stokowksi finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

 

Chase Vinson tripled in the fourth inning and scored on a Hunter Phelps RBI single for the only run of the game for the Comets.

 

Vinson finished 1-for-2 with a walk.

 

Oakwood drops to 1-1 on the season while Monticello improves to 4-1 overall.
