Big Inning Propels Rantoul To Rout of Monticello

An eight run fifth inning propelled the Rantoul Eagles at 14-8 victory over Monticello in Okaw Valley Conference boys baseball action Tuesday afternoon from Clinton High Schoo.
 
The Sages jumped out to a 3-0 with two runs in the first inning and a run in the second, but the Eagles would rebound with a four run third inning, added a run in the fourth and broke the game open with an eight run fifth inning where they sent 14 batters to the plate. 
 
Mitch Carr started on the mound for Monticello, allowing five runs in four innings, and Nick Hopper finished the game out allowing nine runs.
 
Sages pitchers walked eight, including five to the bottom third of the Rantoul order. They had only five strikeouts.
 
Every hitter reached base for Rantoul Tuesday. Garet Kinnett finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored. John Frerichs, Josh Frerichs, JT Jones, Hayden Cargo, and Adam Crites all recorded two hits apiece.
 
The Sages were led by Nate Graham, who finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Konnor Bundy was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Hoppers went 3-for-3 with an RBI.
 
The Sages drop to 9-3 overall and 1-2 in Okaw action.
 
The two teams meet up again Thursday in Rantoul.
