Illinois State Swept By Evanseville

Brent Headrick tossed seven shutout innings to match Evansville starter Justin Hayden, but Brendan Krob homered to lead off the eighth inning to provide the difference in a 1-0 Evansville win Sunday at Duffy Bass Field.
Paired with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday, Sunday's win gave visiting Evansville (13-22, 4-5 MVC) a three-game sweep in the Missouri Valley Conference weekend series.

Headrick scattered four hits and did not walk a batter over a career-high seven innings, which matched the longest start by an ISU pitcher this season. Headrick struck out two.

Evansville's Hayden matched Headrick, however, allowing just three hits and a walk over his seven innings on the mound. Brandon Gomer pitched two scoreless innings to secure his fourth save of the season.

Illinois State (10-24) was led by Joe Butler's two hits. Noah Sadler, Derek Parola and Joe Aeilts collected the Redbirds' remaining hits.

Trevor Cross surrendered the game's lone run when Krob cleared the left-center field fence. The junior right-hander allowed no further damage, however, over the game's final two innings.

The Redbirds return to action Wednesday at Notre Dame.
