The Mt. Zion Braves offense came alive late to put away the Monticello Sages 8-2 on senior day from Monticello High School in non-conference boys baseball action.
Leading 2-1 entering action in the fifth inning, the Braves tacked on two in the fifth, three in the sixth and then another in the seventh to open an 8-1.
Trevor Durand finished 3-for-3 with two runs batted in. Merrick Eddington finished 1-for-2 with two RBI. Mitchell Binder finished 1-for-4 with a two-run single in the fifth as every Braves batter recorded a hit.
Monticello was led by Nate Graham who finished 3-for-4 with a double and a run. Alek Bundy finished 2-for-4. Mitch Rhoades got hit by pitches twice.
Jeffery Wileaver took the loss for Monticello while Daniel Chausse picked up the win.
Mt. Zion improved to 20-8 on their season. They will conclude their 3A season next week.
Monticello drops to 17-8 overall and will take on Tolono Unity at the Champaign St. Thomas More Regional Wednesday.
