Illini Baseball Adds Ten Signees

Illinois head coach Dan Harlteb announced Wednesday the signing of ten recruits to the Fighting Illini baseball program. The ten will join the Illini for the 2019 season. 
 
Barrington High School outfielder, Tyler Acosta is ranked as the number 15 recruit in Illinois according to Perfect Game. Acosta was committed to Illinois as a sophomore.
 
6-2 right handed pitcher Garrett Acton comes to Illinois by way of transferring from Parkland College. He was a 35th round pick of the Chicago White Sox in the 2016 MLB draft and will have two years of eligibility left. 
 
He pitched at St. Louis University as a freshman prior to his transfer to Parkland in Champaign.
 
Janesville, WI catcher Jacob Campbell is ranked as the number nine catcher in the country by Prep Baseball Report and Wisconsin's no. 2 high school recruit. 
 
He hit .462 with four homeruns and 16 stolen bases as a junior. 
 
Carl Sandberg High School (Orland Park) shortstop, Branden Comia, is ranked as the number 13 shortstop in the nation by Prep Baseball Report and is ranked as the number four overall prospect in the state by the same service and the number five recruit in Illinois by Perfect Game. 
 
6-3 right handed pitcher Josh Garner comes to Illinois via Parkland and like his teammate Acton, he too was a transfer from St. Louis University. 
 
The Plainfield, IL native has two years of eligibility left. He thre 44.2 innings as a freshman at SLU to a 3.22 ERA.
 
6-3 Libertyville, IL right handed pitcher, Riley Gowens, is the number 19 overall recruit in Illinois according to Prep Baseball Report, who also ranks him as the no. 5 right handed pitcher in the state.
He chose Illinois over schools like Kansas, Ole Miss and several Big Ten programs.
 
El-Paso Gridley left hander Nathan Lavender is the number 11 recruit in Illinois and the fifth ranked left handed pitcher by Prep Baseball Report.
 
He chose Illinois over Missouri State, Indiana State, Michigan State, Purdue and Southern Illinois.
 
The Illini also signed the number two overall prospect in Minnesota (Perfect Game and Prep Baseball Report) RHP Aidan Maldonado, and INF Cam McDonald, the No. 4 prospect in Illinois by Perfect Game. 
 
Wheaton left-handed pitcher Caleb Larson also signed a national letter of intent Wednesday.
