Mt. Pulaski High School Track Star Commits To Southern Illinois

A student athlete going division one for an event their school does not host is rare but that is what Mt. Pulaski High School's Peyton Taylor is doing.

The Mt. Pulaski High School Track and Field program does not have a throw coach but Taylor, a 6-foot-8 senior, committed to division one Southern Illinois Carbondale Wednesday afternoon.

Taylor has qualified for the state three times and also finished fifth in the state as sophomore in the discuss throw in Class 1A. During the season he is coached in Clinton twice a week by throw coach Darren Moser, whom Taylor calls a great mentor close to home.

Taylor says he has a big adjustment awaiting him at Southern Illinois University but he's not shying away from setting the bar high.

The Mt. Pulaski track and field coach is Rob Seibert.

Taylor's parents are Greg and Marla Taylor of Chestnut.

Mt. Pulaski is a district of roughly 165 students in Logan County.
