Tri-Valley Topples Clinton

Four Tri-Valley starters scored in double figures as the Vikings used a balanced attack to hand the Clinton Maroons their first loss of the season with a 74-47 loss Tuesday night in non-conference boys basketball action from Downs.

Clayton Liepold led all scorers with 19 points for the Vikings, including five three pointers. Mason Cagley added 18 points and Kolton Weichman added 13 points. Nolan Anderson also contributed 12 points.

The Maroons turned the basketball over nine times in the second quarter. They committed 16 turnovers overall for the game.

Austin Baker led the Maroons with 15 points. Jacob Hospelhorn had 10 points. Seth Westfall had eight points and eight rebounds.

The Vikings outrebounded the Maroons 44-28 as Tri-Valley's John Symanski pulled down a game high 11 rebounds.

Maroons coach Clay Haurberg said quote - "We did not play up to our ability tonight. To their credit, Tri-Valley was very disciplined defensively and really forced us out of our rhythm. We, in turn didn't communicate well defensively and got hung up on screens too frequently because of it. This gave them great looks at the rim from various spots on the floor, which they capitalized on. We allowed them too many offensive rebounds, several of which they kicked out for open 3's. They played well, we played poorly. Right now, we have to go back to our gym, work on those things we didn't do well and work to get better for the next game."

The Maroons are at home for the first time Friday night when they host Maroa-Forsyth.
