Maroons Top Rochester

Seth Westfall led four Clinton scorers in double figures with 19 points as the Maroons beat Rochester 66-56 Saturday night in non-conference boys basketball action from Rochester High School.

The Maroons jumped out early on the Rockets, leading 18-5 after one quarter, a deficit Rochester could not overcome.

With the lead trimmed to 45-42 after three quarters, the Maroons closed the game out with a 21-14 fourth quarter edge.

Maroons Coach Clay Haurberg said quote - "We got out to a hot start, and that proved to be pivotal, as we had a rough time during the middle two periods. Shots weren’t dropping and we gave up a batch of second and even third shots to them. We kept positive and the kids kept their energy high which served us well in the 4th. Seth Westfall really played well in the paint tonight and our guards got some big shots in that last quarter. We struggled mightily at the foul line throughout the game, but hit the big ones down the stretch. Our guys showed great composure when things looked a little shaky.”

Dalton Smith added 14 points for the Maroons, Austin Rauch chipped in with 12 points and Chase Reynolds added 11.

Austin Baker shot 6-for-8 from the free throw and finished with eight points.

The Maroons shot 18-for-30 from the line.

Jordan Leach led Rochester with 16 points and Jayden Reed added 11 points.

The Rockets shot only six free throws and committed 23 fouls.

Rochester drops to 0-4 overall while the Maroons are 6-4.

The Maroons are off for another week when they return to action next Saturday afternoon at the Jacksonville Shootout taking on Illini West at approximately 4:15. Hear the action on The Big 1520 AM/92.3 FM and online at dewittdailynews.com.
