Monticello Overcomes Slow Start To Beat Rantoul

The Monticello Lady Sages used an 11-0 run as part of a 23-9 second quarter to overcome a slow start and run past Rantoul 57-36 in Illini Prairie Conference girls basketball action from Monticello High School Monday night.

 

The Lady Sages opened up a 30-21 halftime advantage after trailing 12-7 after a sluggish first quarter then outscored the Lady Eages 19-4 in the third quarter and put the game away.

 

Zanna Myers scored 12 of her game high 16 points in the second quarter. Jayna Burger finished with 11 points and Tatum McCall added 10 points for the Lady Sages, who improved to 13-0 overall and 1-0 in Illini Prairie action.

 

Emily Wilson added nine points for Monticello.

 

The Lady Eagles were led by Kaylie Wilson’s 12 points. Faith Johnson added eight and Courtney Sutherland added seven points.

 

Rantoul drops to 4-15 overall.

 

The Lady Sages return to action Thursday at home. The next Lady Sages girls basketball broadcast on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com will be Thursday, January 18 when Monticello hosts Maroa-Forsyth at 7:30 pm.
