Monticello Races Past Clinton

The Monticello Sages scored 23 unanswered first half points and ran past Clinton 67-30 in non-conference boys basketball action Tuesday night at Monticello High School.

 

The Maroons took a 6-5 lead at the 5:27 mark of the first quarter and didn’t score again until Dalton Smith 4:20 in the second quarter when Dalton Smith made a layup and was fouled. Smith made the and-one free throw. The Maroons would make just one other field goal for the quarter.

 

Calvin Fisher scored 12 of his game high 20 points in the second quarter. He finished with six rebounds as well.

 

Johnny Dawson scored 11 points with five assists and four rebounds as the Sages dished out 15 assists to go with their 29 field goals and committed only six turnovers.

 

Ben Singleton added ten points and five rebounds.

The Maroons were led by Seth Westfall’s eight points and seven rebounds. Austin Rauch had seven points. Dalton Smith and Austin Baker added five points apiece.

 

The Maroons committed 17 turnovers that led to 16 points for the Sages. Monticello outscored Clinton in the paint 42-16 and the Sages added 10 second chance points on nine offensive rebounds.

 

Monticello also had 14 fast break points and their bench outscored Clinton’s 19-2.

 

The Maroons have dropped their last three games and are 8-6. The Sages are now 10-1 on the season.
