Monticello Dispenses Rantoul

Four players scored in double figures for Monticello, including a career high for Ben Singleton, and the Sages dispensed Rantoul 71-46 Tuesday night in Illini Prairie Conference action from Monticello High School.

 

Singleton’s career high, 17 points, paced all scorers. Calvin Fisher and Johnny Dawson added 13 points apiece and Luke Stokowski scored six points in the final quarter to finish with 11 points.

 

Trailing 21-17 in the second quarter, Monticello closed the half on an 18-3 run to open up a 39-24 lead at the break and didn’t look back in the second half.

 

Rantoul was led by 15 points from Jametriel Hudson. Hayden Cargo added 14 points.

 

The Sages and Eagles were even in the rebounding margin at 28 apiece. Rantoul grabbed 16 offensive, converting them into 14 points.

 

The Sages shot 57% from the floor and 18-for-21 from the free throw line. They held Rantoul to 30-percent shooting (14-for-47) but Rantoul made 12-of-15 free throws.

 

The Sages dished out 12 assists to 11 turnovers. They turned the Eagles over 18 times for 26 points off turnovers.

 

They also dominated points in the paint, 40-16.

 

Monticello is 13-1 on the season an 2-0 in the Illini Prairie Conference.
