To get back to a Supersectional, the Monticello Sages will, like 2017, have to go through two squads they've already beaten this year when they start that journey tonight taking on St. Joseph-Ogden tonight at the Maroa-Forsyth Sectional.
Just like 2017, Monticello survived a regional championship game with a last second basket.
This year it was Ben Singleton who played the hero role for No. 5 Monticello, as his layup with .8 seconds left lifted the Sages past No. 9 GMCS.
Monticello beat St. Joe back on January 30, 53-36 at St. Joseph.
The Spartans are the top seed in the sub-sectional and Monticello is the second seed.
Monticello has won 17 straight and are 24-1 overall while the Spartans are 26-3.
The winner gets Bloomington Central Catholic Friday night at Maroa-Forsyth High School.
