Illinois Sweeps Rutgers

Ty Weber threw a complete game to give Illinois a 10-4 win over Rutgers and finish a three-game series sweep.

Weber allowed four runs on four hits while striking out six with the wind blowing straight out at 20-25 MPH.

Illinois (23-8, 9-3 Big Ten) secured head coach Dan Hartleb's 400th career victory. The Illini have won five straight and 22 of their last 27.

Weber tossed his second career complete game (2017 vs. Indiana State) on a day made for hitters. He got 11 ground ball outs, with the wind never stopping, and consistent soft contact during the 106-pitch outing.

Illinois had seven extra-base hits, including a grand slam from Michael Massey and a two-run homer from Jack Yalowitz. Both homers came before there was an out recorded in the third inning, as Illinois built a 7-1 lead.

Zac Taylor, Ben Troike, Jeff Korte and Grant Van Scoy all had two hits for Illinois. Taylor added two RBIs on a double and a triple.

Rutgers (18-14, 4-5 Big Ten) last hit was a three-run homer by Kyle Walker in the fourth. Weber retired the final 14 straight Scarlet Knights.

Illinois continues its nine-game homestand with a Tuesday game against Valparaiso.
