Monticello Gets By Danville

Seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning propelled Monticello past Danville for another 10-run win, 16-6 Wednesday afternoon in non-conference boys baseball action from Monticello High School.

The Sages drew seven walks in the seven-run inning as the race was on to get the game complete before a round of severe storms rolled into Monticello.

Mitch Carr hit a two-run home run in the first inning. Luke Stokowski jumped missed a home run before Carr and settled for a run-scoring triple off the center field fence.

The Sages jumped out to 5-0 lead after the first.

In the top of the third, the Vikings loaded the bases with two outs and a routine ground ball to second base took a bad hop over the head of Brody Macak and three runs would score on the play.

The Sages would tack on two more in the bottom half of the inning after three straight walks to start the inning. Brock Wade walked in a run and Brett Macak hit a sac-fly to center field to make it 7-3.

The Sages tacked on another two in the fourth.

Alek Bundy, Stokowski and Carr each scored three runs.

Jeff Wileaver reached base four times with a single, double and two walks. Wileaver also scored twice.

The Macak brothers each walked twice and scored twice.

Cam Wittig capped the Sages five-run first inning with a two-run double.

Illinois football commit, Caleb Griffin, reached base three times and scored twice. He reached base all three times on infield bunt singles. He finished 3-for-4 to lead the Vikings offense. Logan Spicer had a two-run single in the third and Cayden Spires hit a home run to start the sixth inning and singled and scored in the third inning. He finished 2-for-3.

Each team hit into a double play.

The Sages are 23-3 overall. Danville drops to 8-10.
