Local Basketball Squads Look Forward to Getting Back To Action in New Year

Area basketball squads will look to get the new year underway right as they get back to action in the coming days.

The Maroons have been off since the 21st of December when they lost to LeRoy 56-29. The Maroons will look to bounce back with a couple games this week, starting Friday night at Tuscola before returning home for the annual Clinton New Year's Shootout.

Off a third-place finish at the Riverton Holiday Tournament, the Lady Maroons return to action tomorrow night with a matchup at home against Tri-Valley. It will be the first time the Lady Maroons will have played at home since December 13 and they don't return home again until January 28, including action at the Central Illinois Conference tournament at Decatur St. Teresa High School.

Off a third-place finish at the annual Holiday Hoopla tournament, the Monticello Sages head to the St. Joseph-Ogden Shootout Saturday afternoon for a matchup with the top team in Class 1A, Cissna Park. At 11-2 overall, Monticello struggled in the Hoopla, just edging out Oakwood before a loss to Paxton-Buckley-Loda, who took second at the Hoopla, followed another close win over Ridgeview and then a blowout win of Tuscola. Monticello came into the Hoopla having lost at Marshall the Friday before Christmas and was struggling offensively.

Off of a fourth-place finish at the annual Holiday Hoopla, the Monticello Lady Sages get back in action Thursday night, as they open Illini Prairie action against IVC. GCMS used a big second half to get past Monticello in the third-place game of the annual Holiday Hoopla, 48-35.

Finishing 2-2 last week, the Lady Sages enter action this week at 5-9 overall.
