Illinois OF Jack Yalowitz Named Big Ten Player of the Week

Illinois senior Jack Yalowitz was named Big Ten Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

Yalowitz led Illinois with seven hits, two homers and six RBIs in a sweep at Grand Canyon last weekend. He slugged 1.167 for the weekend and batted .583 to jump his season batting average to. 354.

Yalowitz had a huge night Friday, going 4-for-4 with two homers and five RBIs to help the Illini hand GCU its first Friday loss of the season (previous wins vs. Wichita State, TCU and USC). After tying career highs in hits (4), homers (2) and RBIs (5), Yalowitz stayed hot through the weekend with three more hits, two runs and an RBI over the final two games. Illinois completed the sweep for the third time in the first four weekends.

It is Yalowitz's first career Big Ten Player of the Week honor.
