Illinois State Blanks Eastern Illinois

The Illinois State baseball team snapped its seven-game losing streak with a 3-0 win over Eastern Illinois on Tuesday at Duffy Bass Field. ISU starting pitcher, Brett Wicklund tossed the complete game shutout for the 'Birds. It's the first time a pitcher has tossed nine complete innings since Jacob Hendren accomplished the same feat at Bradley on May 9, 2015.

Wicklund retired the first 13 batters he faced in the game. Eastern's first hit in the game came off a single in the fifth inning.

Wicklund faced 30 Panthers in the game that was completed in less than two hours.

The Illinois State Redbirds scored three runs in the home half of the third inning. John Rave singled to start the inning, and was moved over to second base after Jordan Libman drew a walk. Joe Aeilts singled up the middle to bring home Rave for the first run of the game. Next, Joe Butler moved both runners over in the inning with a sacrifice bunt. Then, Gunner Peterson doubled to right field to bring home Libman and Aeilts. ISU led EIU 3-0 after the inning.

Peterson and Aeilts each finished 2-for-2. Rave was 2-for-5.

Illinois State will travel to Iowa tomorrow to take on the Hawkeyes. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
