Lady Maroons Hold Off Frantic Rally for Win Over Monticello

A pair of seventh-inning home runs were not enough for the Monticello Lady Sages to overcome a seven-run deficit in the seventh inning as Clinton held on for a 10-8 win in non-conference girls softball action Wednesday afternoon from Clinton High School.

Miranda Fogal blasted a three-run home run to bring Monticello within 10-6 in the seventh. After Avery Oberheim reached on an error, Josie Nelson homered to right-center to cut the lead to 10-8.

Kaylee Yost relieved Mack Armstrong with nobody out and struck out the first two batters she faced, after allowing a single to center, Yost struck out the Monticello nine-hitter for the final out to secure the win.

The Lady Maroons led 5-3 headed to the bottom of the sixth inning and scored five runs without recording an extra-base hit.

The Lady Maroons opened up a 5-2 lead in the third inning with a four-run inning, again, without an extra-base hit.
