Monticello Gets Walk Off Win Over Herscher

Hunter Williams scored the winning run of a 4-3 walk off win for Monticello over Herscher from a rain soaked turf at the Corn Crib in Normal at the Michael Collins Memorial Invitational Saturday.

 

Tied at 3, Williams led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a base hit to left field. After Alek Bundy and Brett Macak were hit by pitches in consecutive at bats, a wild pitch went to the backstop and Williams slid head first across the plate for the winning run.

 

The Sages had to come back twice for the win.

 

After Herscher scored single runs in the second and third innings, the Sages tied the score in the third on a Macak RBI double and Macak came around to score when Asher Bradd reached on an error at third.

 

Herscher took the lead back, 3-2 in the top of the fifth.

 

In the bottom of inning, Brody Macak singled to start the inning. He moved to second on a sac bunt then moved up to third after Jared Lockmilker reached on an error and scored on Jake Edmondson's RBI sac fly to tie the game at 3.

 

Coming into the game with the bases loaded and one out in the third inning, Hunter Weeks struck out the first batter he faced and finished the inning getting Reece Harrod to bounce to third to end the threat and keep the score 2-0.

 

Weeks went 3 ? innings allowing a run, three hits, issued a walk and struck out four.

 

Andrew Rudolph was the winning pitcher, throwing a scoreless inning of relief surrendering a hit and striking out one.

 

Monticello improves to 11-6 and Herscher drops to 6-15.
