No. 19 Indiana Wins Sunday, Illinois Wins Series

After limiting No. 19 Indiana to three hits in each of the first two games of a three-game series, the Hoosiers broke out for nine runs to beat the Illinois baseball team 9-2 at Illinois Field. Illinois won the series to hand Indiana its first Big Ten series loss of the season.

 

Illinois (31-16, 10-8 Big Ten) fell to 5-2 against ranked opponents and 12-5 against the RPI top 50. 

Indiana (31-16, 12-6 Big Ten), which entered the weekend leading the nation in homers, had homers from Elijah Dunham, Cole Barr, and Ryan Fineman. Drew Ashley led Indiana with three hits and Matt Lloyd added two hits.

 

Indiana's Andrew Saalfrank shutout Illinois over seven innings, allowing only four hits and walking three. Casey Dodge hit a two-run homer in the ninth and Michael Massey had three of the Illini's seven hits, including two doubles. 

 

Illinois stays at home for three games next weekend against Purdue.
