>>Illinois' Andy Fisher Big Ten Pitcher of the Week After Big Performance Against Ranked Indiana

 

Illinois senior Andy Fisher was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week following a dominant performance Friday against No. 19 Indiana. Fisher threw eight shutout innings to help Illinois win the series.

 

Fisher limited Indiana to three hits and tied a season high with nine strikeouts, as the Illini handed Indiana its second shutout of the season in a 4-0 victory. The left-hander allowed only two base runners to reach second base and retired 14 in a row from the third to seventh innings.

 

It is Fisher's first Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honor. It is Illinois' second Big Ten weekly honor, joining Jack Yalowitz's Big Ten Player of the Week award from March 11.

Illinois entered the D1Baseball.com rankings for the third time this season, checking in at No. 25 in Monday's poll. The Illini are No. 18 in the latest RPI.

 

Illinois (31-16, 10-8 Big Ten) was previously ranked Feb. 25 and March 25. The Illini are 5-2 against ranked opponents, tying the most wins against the top 25 in the Dan Hartleb era.

 

With the series win over Indiana, the Illini put themselves back in the conversation to host an NCAA regional. Illinois is 12-5 (.706) against the RPI top 50 for the No. 5 winning percentage in the nation against the top 50.
