Illinois State catcher Nick Zouras has been named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Zouras helped Illinois State take home a share of the MVC regular season title this weekend with a series victory on Sunday over Evansville, 11-4. The senior led the Redbirds offensively, as he slashed .538/.538/.769 going 7-for-13 at the plate with three doubles, six RBI, and four runs scored.
The Prospect Heights, Illinois, native was a perfect 4-for-4 in the series opener with two RBI and two runs scored in the Redbirds 11-2 win. Zouras went 1-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored on Saturday. He finished on Senior Day going 2-for-5 with three RBI including the go-ahead RBI in the fifth inning, and then added a two-run double in the seventh inning to secure the series victory over Evansville.
The No. 2 seeded Redbirds will open the MVC baseball tournament on Wednesday, May 22 at 3 p.m. Illinois State will play the winner of the No. 6 Bradley versus No. 8 Southern Illinois game on Tuesday.
