Clinton Football To Take Forfeit in Week 2, Use As Bye Week

The decision has been made for the Clinton football program to take the forfeit in week 2 of the season and use it as a bye week.

Athletic Director Matt Koeppel to Regional Radio News Monday morning on the WHOW Morning Show they felt that decision was the best for them. Pawnee went to 8-man football early in the summer leaving the Maroons without a week two opponent, and Koeppel just wanted to make the best of a bad situation.

The next best option for the program was to play Decatur St. Teresa in week 2, who also was looking for an opponent that week. Koeppel says though, it didn't make a lot of sense to him, to play St. T twice in a month.

Not only was week 2 of this season in flux, but now next season's week 2 game is uncertain. Koeppel says their scheduled opponent dropped football and now they are looking for a game for next year as well.

Week 2 was supposed to be the JFL recognition night at Clinton High School. That event, for the time being, has been canceled. Koeppel hopes he can put something together as a community event but the extent of what he has planned he would not elaborate on because he did not have any details set.

The Maroons open the season Friday night at Salt Fork. Hear the action on The Big 1520 AM/92.3FM/106.5 FM WHOW and online at dewittdailynews.com.
